Nike+ SportBand: A Variation On A Good Thing

April 07, 2008 | in Gear | 2 Comments

Don't use the Nike+ with your iPod? Nike is offering another option to tap into their fantastic site and accelerometer functionality. Sweet.

Nike+ SportBand
You may have already read our rave review of the Nike+ iPod. Some folks may not want to use the Nike+ iPod—they may run with their iPhone, an MP3 player other than the Nano, or (worst of all!) they may not run to music.

For people that fit into any of the above segments Nike has devised the Nike+ SportBand. Here’s some of the features:

  • Simple interface to view pace, distance, time and caloric burn
  • USB plug to connect with your computer
  • Integration with NikePlus.com
  • Snappy armband

The Nike+ SportBand comes with the Nike+ sensor, so you don’t have to buy the SportBand and the Nike+ separately.

As an avid Nike+ iPod user, I’d be curious to see how well this item works, and how usable the interface is. Does anyone have experience with the unit? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

Man, whatever happened to just good old fashioned running?  I have an iPod and love it, but would never dream of running with it. Running is a great time to collect thoughts and clear the head, or a run with friends is a good time to catch up.

I’m a tech gadget kinda guy, except when it comes to this. The number of folks running with iPods is depressing.

This thing is a little less intrusive, but I don’t see what it gives me, beyond the gee-whiz realm, that I can’t figure out already.

No offense Hella… I’ll be curious what other people think.

@Chazzerguy I can see that--the “purity” of that, I guess you could say. Music actually helps me clear my head when I’m running, as well as focus on what I’m doing. It’s like an inspirational thing *within* an inspiring activity.
