#LoseAThon: It’s On!

The kick-off post for the inaugural #LoseAThon—a (friendly) Twitter weight loss contest!

#LoseAThon

What started as friendly chatter on Twitter—a friendly weight-loss contest—transformed into a larger, friendly weight-loss competition amongst Twitterers.

Oh, it's on.

How It Works

From Thursday, January 19th, 2012 until Sunday, February 19th, 2012, participants will weigh themselves every Wednesday and Saturday, reporting the number to @HellaSound (via direct message) on Twitter. Each Wednesday and Saturday, we'll post each participant's weight loss percentage on this site. We have sworn to absolute secrecy and will never divulge pounds.

Through charts, graphs and that kind of thing, we'll display each person's progress over time, ranking folks by percentage change.

On Sunday, February 19th, 2012, a winner will be announced.

What's at Stake

Pride, mostly. Seeking optimal health, pride and bragging rights. Competition can make for great inspiration, and all of us should have the goal of be healthy and healthful. If nothing else, #LoseAThon is a motivator for all of us to live from 1/19 to 2/19 as our "ideal fitness selves". That's a really good thing.

What, No Goodies?

Well, besides a pat on the back, the good folks at Iron Sport Works have mentioned a possible prize, and we'll certainly award the winner with a ginormous wad of music from our running music catalog.

Not bad for a month's worth of eating right and exercising, right?

The Participants

Here's the list of participants (in alphabetical order):

The Rules

  1. DON'T BE AN IDIOT. This is a healthful, friendly challenge, among folks that are runners and/or otherwise fitness-minded; Do not do something stupid. Stupid things consist of (but are not limited to): starving yourself, dehydrating yourself, doing some idiotic "cleanse", eating unhealthily, using crash diet techniques, or anything else obviously unhealthy. This is about optimum health, not damaging yourself. You may also not weigh yourself while holding 1,000 helium balloons. That's cheating.
  2. Live from January 19, 2012 to February 19, 2012 as your ideal fitness self. Eat right. Sleep well. Get in your workouts. Do all the right things that you've too busy (or possibly too lazy?) to do but really want to do. Who knows, this could become a permanent habit!
  3. Encourage your co-participants!
  4. Report your weight each Wednesday and Saturday as soon as you are able, so we can post current results in a timely fashion.
  5. Again, DON'T BE AN IDIOT.

This is a friendly, unofficial, healthy competition. This is an unsupervised activity, not sponsored by or condoned by any group or company—it's a casual, fun activity. We at Hella Sound are not doctors, physicians, personal trainers or certified anything, nor do we claim to be; we make no recommendation on weight loss or weight loss methods. Before taking on any weight loss activity or physical/athletic regimen, consult with a qualified doctor. Listen to their advice. Be smart.
