This week's links include dynamic stretching videos, running in high heat and foam roller fun.
We posted some thoughts on ultrarunning as well as resources for how to get started. We’d love to get your thoughts and experiences on the ultimate endurance test. And in case you haven’t seen them, check out Paul Stofko’s speedwork drills—they’re great for knocking some time off your splits.
Sometimes runners acknowledge me when we pass each other and sometimes they don’t. Me, I always do the head nod; a simple, subtle, old-school-guy maneuver that fits nicely into running form. Sometimes it’s reciprocated, sometimes not. How about you? What’s your experience?
Coach Jenny offers some IT band exercises with the foam roller. Good explanation and helpful info (if you’re iliotibially tizight).
At some point I’m going to have to stop linking to Feet Meet Street, and just pull Nitmos’ RSS feed into the site. Consistently good, consistently funny; people, just read his blog. An excerpt: “My daughter, ever the optimist, had asked Mom ‘if Dad went to live somewhere else.’” 20 miles in high heat and humidity = ugh.
I have no idea why Nissan is doing these, but hey, I’ll take ‘em. Here’s some dynamic stretches that I personally use before a run. They’re exactly like the ones we did in Muay Thai and really loosen you up and get the blood flowing.
Another dynamic stretch from Alberto Salazar. I’ve never done this one, but it looks like a good warm-up or pre-run dynamic stretch.
HA! Awesome collection of song diagram charts The Noodle. Love it.
Let's keep it polite and on topic.
