Links! Links! Come get 'em! We've got information on shin splints, a newfound video library, advice on what type of runner *not* to be, and an incredibly empty promise from an otherwise reliable source.
Runners are tough. Usually the pain is all but invisible to the outside world. This time, not so much.
Shin splints. They feel about as good as they sound. If it ever seems like I'm getting them, I use the R.I.C.E. method (Rest Ice Compression Elevation). But don't listen to me—heed the Mayo Clinic; they're the world-class medical experts—not me.
Chaz' views and experience in running differ from mine. But he offers a great post which I take to fundamentally mean: let running become a part of your life instead of obsessing about it, or you run the risk of injury, burn out, and boring the crap out of other runners. A good read.
Holy pile of videos! I had no idea Runner's World had all this video content. Check out some of the videos under the Training tab—there's a lot of good stuff in here. Various stretches, weight training—all sorts.
"Time to blast fat, build muscle, and chisel your entire body. All it takes is 15 minutes." Bless Men's Health for being an otherwise legitimate magazine that has the guts to publish something this ridiculous. Hey man, lunges, squats and push-ups work. But I think they sold this article a little too hard...
This ugly page is actually pretty clever and handy—enter your weight and the duration of exercise in the upper left, then click ENTER and it tells you the calories burned for each exercise. Snappy. It looks like running 5.5 minute miles is the champion caloric furnace.
Another good post by an interesting writer who offers thoughts on time-honored topics (decision-making, management, achievement) without pandering to the reader's expectations. This one on running has a fresh perspective on perseverance and positivity.
Of potentially dubious origin, but very helpful for folks that are sensitive to caffeine and/or prone to insomnia...
Reading this list caused an instant vicarious flashback to when my wife was in med school. Ugh. I have never seen someone study so much in all my life. Absolutely brutal. And while medical school was grueling academically, it was nothing compared to the number of hours put in during residency. Good doctors deserve our utmost respect.
Let's keep it polite and on topic.
Love the site! I’ll be sure to shoot you an email. Thanks for the links!
