For this week's links we have some food advice, lace hacking, crazy cat ladies and a serious gripe with determining who is a "real" runner.
- Why Run? | Active.com
A little pep talk for beginners. "Confidence increases as you push your own limits, meeting goals and often surprising yourself by exceeding your own expectations."
- The Perfect Form - Runner's World
Form is something that's worth revisiting frequently; here's a Runner's World article touching on the basics.
- Exercising with music is a great way to find motivation and distraction during a workout.
Further information on music and athletic performance--especially for beginners and intermediates: "...the tougher the workout, the more music helps you hang in there."
- Buying a new pair of running shoes? Get off on the right foot - Cleveland Lifestyles – Living, Food, Health & Fitness News from The Plain Dealer
Some running shoe advice for different types of folks with different types of feet.
- Customize Your Shoes With These Tricks | Active.com
Shoe hacks and lace optimization. Sounds crazy, but apparently it works.
- The Best Food For Runners from Runner's World.com
15 food recommendations to keep you fueled during your run and throughout your day.
- Health Blog : Life Expectancy Falls In Pockets of U.S.
Wow. This is hard to reconcile with what's available in healthcare, diet, fitness and lifestyle choices. "Big factors were an increase in diabetes, cancers and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease...often caused and exacerbated by smoking and obesity".
- Fitness: Start fitness plan early to get in beach shape | news-press.com | The News-Press
A short "get ready for summer" article by Angie Ferguson, an exercise physiologist. Most of it is common knowledge for fitness people but may be interesting to people who are just starting to work out.
- Ultrafit: Maven of movement
Fascinating story of Lonna Mosow, a pre-Jane Fonda fitness guru. It's funny to think that a mere 33 years ago running, aerobics and "voluntary exercise" was considered an oddity.
- Ask the MisFits - washingtonpost.com
Bookmarked for reader Boston's submission about elitism and the meaning of running a race. Screw this idea of "real" runners--if you're running, you're a runner. Everyone else can get over themselves.
- [ paul isakson ]: Who Gets Runners, Better?
An interesting conclusion post to a previous reader survey (links within post), and an even more interesting comments discussion afterwards. I put in my 2 cents on this one.
- The 10 Types of Runners | Active.com
Kinda funny write-up by someone who's kind of a chauvinist. Or something. Not sure if I wholly relate but funny nonetheless.
- Craig's using plenty of sole | The Daily Telegraph
The pic of Craig Mottram amidst his shoes...I'm betting that doesn't smell so great.
- Tom Cruise To Run Boston Marathon? - Entertainment News, Movie Reviews, Competitions - Entertainmentwise
Who thinks they can take him?
- MARATONA DO RIO - Rio de Janeiro Marathon 2008
How amazing would it be to go down to Brazil to run a marathon? I wonder what the temp is like in late June...
- YouTube - We Think
Interesting little video (via YouTube) about the nature of knowledge sharing. "We are building a bird's nest, with everyone contributing their piece."
- Health magazine names top chain restaurant fare - CNN.com
We see a lot of "The Worst Restaurant Foods" lists; this one offers some healthy suggestions. P.F. Chang's has many more healthy selections than what's suggested, and they're all pretty good.
- MikeDoe.net - Comedy - Journal - If You Have More than Five Cats, You Are a CRAZY CAT LADY
The cats jump around like a mouthful of Pop Rocks. Surreal, including the crazy cat lady's dress.

@Amber—HA!
“Now his hat is on backwards
He can show you his tattoos
He is in the music business
He is calling you ‘DUDE!’”
I can totally hear the nasal monotone singing it.
