This week's round up of links, including running coupons, music's affect on the brain, a musculature balance self-assessment and a runner getting back on the horse.
Men’s Health is offering downloadable workouts that you can view on your iPod. Load ‘em up and take them to the gym with you. A pretty clever idea.
This post really spoke to me. This is a driven person who, in a very honest post, captures what it feels like to have to tell yourself “I can’t—not this time.” Burnout happens, but if we know when to take a break we can come back stronger than ever.
Is this site legal? I sure hope so. Here’s a rolling bunch of coupons submitted by users for various retailers for running products. How cool is that?
Fascinating study of the affects of music on the brain. The author mentions stimulation of creativity by both listening and playing, but focuses on how jazz musicians show “autobiographical” brain responses while improvising and being scanned by an MRI.
Hysterical inner dialog post from a.maria about the 8 mile run she didn’t want to do, but then finally did.
This one is an absolute classic. Steve Albini shares an frank insider perspective on how the major label music industry works, and how your “big break” can truly amount to indentured servitude for the bright-eyed rocker. Good thing times are changing.
Dave Fleet is documenting his Boston Marathon training and fundraising through his site—a great mix and usage of modern web technologies we have at our fingertips. Good stuff. He’s running the Boston for cancer research—a worthy cause.
I love this post—I think a lot of people can relate to this. 99.9% of the world are not elite athletes, running 2 hour marathons at 180 strides per minute. Most ATHLETES aren’t, either. And we all gotta (re)start somewhere.
The “Hip Circuit” stretch is what I’m flagging this for. The main “dumbell alternating lunge” move seems like something you’d do if you’re stuck in a hotel traveling for business.
Good lord. What can you possibly say to this? Now, if I’m gonna be picky, I’d say the band isn’t really all that fantastic—the riffs are somewhat pedestrian. But who cares?!?! This is pure rock craziness! \m/ AWESOME \m/ Ms. Otep has my respect. Fo sure.
It’s easy for gym rats or cubicle dwellers to throw their body out of whack—things tighten up or get overdeveloped. Men’s Health has a little self-assessment test and some fix recommendations.
Knee arthritis due to years of running is apparently a myth. Personally I’d like to hear more M.D.‘s opinions.
A lot of people seem to like this page. To me it just seems incredibly brutal. It’s fantastic that this stunt raised funds for the YouthAIDS charity and was sponsored by Kiehl’s, but man…
Let's keep it polite and on topic.
