August's Athlete of the Month features not one, but two athletes: uber-couple Ann Gaffigan and Jason High.
Ann is a lightning-fast steeplechaser, owner of a web/tech company (Gazelle, Inc), and co-founder of Women Talk Sports, a network of fans, athletes and journalists covering women’s sports. Jason is a mixed martial artist (HighFighter.com) with a 13-3 record, competing in top-level organizations like the UFC and Strikeforce. From his base of ridiculously quick, technical wrestling, Jason’s wins come from the full spectrum of martial arts, including knockouts and submissions.

Together, Ann and Jason are probably the most entertaining, good-natured bickering couple on Twitter. Check ‘em out: @anngaff @KCBanditMMA
Mixing it up a little, they decided to answer each other’s questions:
ANN: Jason will complain a lot but then goes HAM. He is mentally stronger than most athletes I know. He has no self-pity, even if he complains. It’s like he gets it out verbally, but then goes harder.
JASON: Ann just puts on her hard ass mask and deals with it. Other than that I believe her go to is imagining that I told her to relax.
ANN: I hate when he tells me to relax!

ANN: I’m usually not around him the day before a fight, but I know POST-fight he gorges himself on donuts and hot tamales. It’s pretty disgusting.
JASON: Uuum, I really don’t know. Probably some steak or sausage. Anything that isn’t vegetables. She hates vegetables.
ANN: Hot and sunny. Jason’s a big cry baby about the cold.
JASON: She’s always saying how the optimal temperature for marathons is 40 something so I’d say a cold one.
ANN: This past winter he took his mom’s black lab on a 6 mile run in blowing snow. The dog hardly made it. I told Jason this officially made him a runner.
JASON: Back when we first me Ann never missed a run and never ran on a treadmill. She ran outside all the time, whatever the weather was in the dead of Nebraska winters. She got really excited when New Balance sent her cold weather gear: “ooooh baby, look at this. This is for when it’s reeaaally cold outside. Can’t wait to wear this”. Weirdo.

ANN: Jason would definitely take that deal.
JASON: Nah, I don’t think she would. She has a love hate relationship with running. I you told her all she could do for the rest of her life is bike, swim or get on the elliptical she might have a seizure.
ANN: He has run 6 miles, I think that’s his limit.
JASON: Marathon I believe.
Let's keep it polite and on topic.
