When you join a health club, you come in with good intentions, like losing weight or increasing strength; but even the best intentions sometimes do not pan out. Finding time and motivation to work out is hard. Here’s how you can incorporate exercise into your lifestyle for good.
- Set goals. The best motivation is achieving goals and actually seeing results. So work toward attainable, short-term goals, such as losing three pounds, running a mile on the treadmill, or doing strength training two times a week.
- Find a time that is right for you. In the beginning, try working out at different times of the day: morning, lunchtime, after work or late at night to see what works best for you.
- Invest in one or two sessions with a personal trainer. If you do not see results on your own, you run the risk of quitting your program out of frustration. A couple of sessions with a trainer may save you that frustration and the time it might have taken you to figure things out on your own.
- Mix things up. Your body adapts to anything you throw at it. At some point you will no longer see results. You need to mix up your workouts so that your muscles do not go on auto pilot.
- Reward yourself. Realize your accomplishments and how far you have come, instead of dwelling on how much more you have to do. Reward yourself with some kind of treat or prize every week you stick to your program.
Consult with a physician and/or fitness expert before beginning or altering your training program. Please review the Terms of Service for more information.
